Tura Satana Dies: ‘Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!’ Actress Dead at Age 76
News that Tura Satana dies has shocked many. She was the iconic and popular star in “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!,” a 1965 cult classic in which she played the character Varla.
Satana was born as Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi. Reportedly she died Friday evening in New York, with her manager saying she was 72 years old. According to various reports, Satana was born in 1935 though.
According to the recent report from the NY Times, the Meyer exploitation film, “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” was Satana’s breakthrough role. It oddly featured no nudity, while other Meyer films later on did. The movie featured Satana as Varla, the leader of a gang of go-go dancers. They engaged in a kidnapping and murder before continuing to push even more limits of the law.
It is unknown as of this report what claimed Ms. Satana’s life. Tura Satana was married twice, once to John Satana from 1951 to 1952, and once to Endel Jurman from 1981 until 2000. She is survived by two daughters and two sisters. The Times notes that a memorial service is currently scheduled for around July 10, which is Tura’s birthday.
