The tax bill signed by President Obama on Friday will put more cash in the pockets of some out of work New Yorkers.
Besides extending Bush-era tax cuts, the 858 billion dollar bill provides for an extension of unemployment benefits for 13 months.
In New York State, it will impact a total of about 200-thousand people.
State Labor Commissioner Colleen Gardner says the extension of the benefits will help New York’s economy…
“For every dollar spent on unemployment benefits, two dollars are generated and returned to our economy, and this money goes towards groceries, bills, school supplies and everyday needs.”
The NYS Labor Department says the checks should be received by most people who are eligible by the middle of next week. Most of them will get two weeks worth of jobless benefits.
