Evidently Juan Williams hasn’t learned from the examples of Helen Thomas or Rick Sanchez. NPR fired the senior news analyst after he made anti-Muslim remarks on the “O’Reilly Factor.” Well, at least he’s still got his gig as an analyst at Fox to fall back on.
Every once in a while, I find myself on Fox News and have to admit that I’m glad I’m there. Fox is sort of like Arlington or Alexandria for me — over the river — when I spend most of my time in DC Central. It’s a good thing to hear what others are thinking and how they are framing policy challenges, and I get a feel for this when I hang out in the Fox green room where I’ve met Gary Bauer, talked with Bill Kristol, David Frum, and yes, Juan Williams.
It was a late night last night for NPR‘s David Folkenflik and NYT‘s Brian Stelter, complete with the tension of two outlets trying to simultaneously break a story on Twitter and their respective web sites. Both were hot on the story of FNC Contributor Juan Williams getting canned from NPR. But who was going to officially get it first?
People will think I’m kidding by saying Juan Williams was fired because he’s a black man; but I’m not. What Juan Williams did is very similar to why the Left hates Sarah Palin, other conservative women and conservative homosexuals. He played against the progressive stereotype of himself, revealing a balanced and too candid humanity within. For a moment, in essence, he became too real.
