Derrick Burts is calling for mandatory condom use in adult films after the bisexual porn star tested positive for HIV. The Los Angeles-based performer has admitted he was the unnamed actor, Patient Zeta, diagnosed with the disease in October.
Burts, 24, has performed in straight films as Cameron Reid and gay films as Derek Chambers. News of his infection, diagnosed by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, sent fears through California’s adult industry.
A second test on Oct. 23 at a Sherman Oaks, California, clinic reportedly traced the infection to someone Burts had performed a scene with. However, the clinic denied the infection was contracted while working in released a public statement.
“Patient Zeta acquired the virus through private, personal activity,” the clinic said in a statement.
The performer told the Los Angeles Times the clinic is wrong to release such a statement.
“That’s completely false,” Burts said. “There is no possible way. The only person I had sex with in my personal life was my girlfriend.”
The young porn star said in a statement yesterday that he ” wishes he had known more about the risks of contracting sexually transmitted diseases in the industry.”
He speaks in favor of mandatory condom use in the industry, according to reports.
